SF WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – 12/1/2012

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints met the Brevard Titans for the third time this season and for the third time picked up a win. The victory moves SF to 8-5 on the season while Brevard falls to 2-6.

“Another great effort by our team tonight,” said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins. “I’m proud of the way we played unselfishly and took care of the ball. We were aggressive going to the basket and earned a lot of our points at the free throw line, we didn’t settle for long jumpers.”

Tiara Thompson led the charge, finishing with 24 points, 16 of them coming in the first half.

Santa Fe led by as many as 20 in the first period and took a 49-27 lead into the break. The margin was paced by a 13-2 run to stretch the margin from three to 14 in the early going. From there Santa Fe didn’t look back and built their lead all the way until the final buzzer.

The Saints shot 50% (29-for-58) from the field and 72% (34-for-47) from the free throw line. They dominated the Titans on the boards, outrebounding them 55-28. Santa Fe had 11 steals, forced 21 turnovers and assisted on 20 baskets.

Four SF players finished in double figures. Thompson led with 24, Paulina Zaveckaite picked up another double double, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds, Shanice Clark had 12 points and seven rebounds and Jaquasha Sesler scored 12.

Next up for the Saints is a home game against The Rock School on Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 PM.
