The Library is Here to Help

With finals approaching fast and last-minute research papers and projects left and right, the Lawrence W. Tyree Library, located at Building Y, is the perfect place for all your end-of-the-semester needs. From a quiet spot to study to much-needed resources, you wouldn’t want to go anywhere else!

You can study on any of the three floors of the library depending on the noise level you are comfortable with. On the first floor, a normal tone of voice is okay. On the second floor, quiet conversations are allowed. The third floor is supposed to be silent. If you like to eat while you study, food is allowed at Coffee 101 on the first floor.

Study rooms are also available to reserve for groups of two or more. The library offers eight small rooms which seat four people and two large rooms which seat 16. To reserve a room, you can visit the circulation desk on the first floor, call 352-395-5409 or go online. Rooms must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance.

If you are in need of resources for papers and projects, the library has an endless amount. Circulating books are located on the third floor and can be checked out at the first floor circulation desk. When checking out books, you must have your SF ID with you. Books check out for two weeks and you may have up to 10 checked out at any given time. To search the catalog online, you can visit http://www.linccweb.org/search/catalog.aspx?screen=keyword&lib_code=flcc2500 and search by keyword, title, author or subject. The library also has access to several online databases where you can find newspaper articles, scholarly journals, etc. There are also research guides available, which are organized by subject. Finally, the library offers Citations 101, a webpage designed to help you learn how to cite sources.

The library provides computers on all three floors. Printers are located on the first and second floors, and printing starts at 10 cents a page.

There are also two scanning stations that will allow you to scan documents in readable PDF format and save them to a flash drive or Google Docs or email them to yourself. The BookScan Stations are located on the 2nd floor near the reference books. There is no cost to this service.

As always, the library staff is available on all three floors and willing to assist you with whatever you need.
