Baseball Takes Two From East Georgia 8-2 and 8-2; Sweep Three Game Series

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints finished off a three game sweep of East Georgia State College (7-10) on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bobcats 8-2 in game one and 8-2 in game two.

Dylan Barrow (1-0) earned his first win of the season in game one with 5.1 innings of work.  He surrendered two runs and struck out six.  Derek Vail and Josh Stewart combined to finished off the win.

The Saints (14-6) got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first inning on two hits, two walks and a Bobcat error.  They added two more in the fifth on two hits and two errors and three more in the sixth to put the game away.

Caleb Denmark led the offensive charge, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Casey Scoggins was 2-for-2, Andrew Fears was 2-for-4 and Jonathan Camp finished 1-for-4 with three RBI.

Clayton Wagner started game two on the mound and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing no hits, walking four with four strikeouts.  Luke Helms earned the win with two innings of work and JT Simpson, Jose Batatino and Derek Vail finished the game out.

Santa Fe sent 10 batters to the plate in the first and scored four runs on three hits and an error to jump out to a 4-0 lead.  They scored two more in the third and two in the fourth to pull away for the win.

Jamal Martin was 2-for-3 in game two with a double and two runs scored and Blake Berger was 2-for-3.

Prior to the games the Santa Fe Athletics department honored the 2013 Hall of Fame Class with an induction ceremony:  Jack Hall – Women’s Tennis Coach – 1981-1993; Lou Palomba – Baseball – 1984-85; Sherquita Bostick – Fastpitch Softball – 2005-2007; Juan Wiley – Men’s Basketball – 1995-97; Walter Spurlin – Men’s Basketball – 1980-82; and the 1981-82 Women’s Basketball team.

The Saints open Mid-Florida Conference play in defense of their four straight titles on Wednesday, March 6 at 3:00 PM against Seminole State College.
