SF FASTPITCH

Gainesville, FL – Karla Claudio continued her stellar sophomore season Tuesday afternoon against Lake Sumter, going a perfect 4-for-4 in two games with two homeruns (9 on the season), five RBI, three runs scored and three base on balls to lead Santa Fe (29-14, 14-4 MFC) past the Lakers 7-1 and 2-1.

Claudio (14-6) started in the circle in game one and dominated LSSC, striking out 12 while allowing just one first inning run to earn her 14th win of the season.

The Saints fell behind 1-0 after a shaky top half of the first that included a throwing error but bounced back immediately with a run in the bottom of the frame.  From there it was all Santa Fe.  SF scored three in the bottom of the second on four hits, including a two RBI single by Claudio, and three more in the bottom of the fourth on three hits, paced by a two RBI triple from Rachel Hoeft.

Claudio finished game one 2-for-2 with three RBI, Hoeft was 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Galis Lozada was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Santa Fe started game two with a run in the first on a homerun by Claudio and another in the third on a line drive homer by Claudio to take an early 2-0 lead.  Lake Sumter cut the deficit in half in the sixth with a run and made things interesting in the seventh against Claudio, who was pitching in relief of Amber Maxey.

The Lakers leadoff batter struck out but reached first when the pitch got by catcher Yanira Sanchez to the back stop.  The next hitter drove a ball to the fence in center field, putting runners on second and third with no one out.  Claudio got the next batter to pop out to the catcher, recorded the second out on a strike out, and finished the game with another strike out, stranding the two runners.

Maxey (8-1) started in the circle and pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits with four strike outs to pick up the win.  Claudio pitched 1.1 innings in relief and earned the save.

Claudio was the lone Saints with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-2 with two homeruns and two RBI.

The Saints head out on the road Thursday for a double header against Seminole State College at 2:30 PM.
