TWELVE SAINTS NAMED ALL MID-FLORIDA CONFERENCE
Gainesville, FL – Earlier this week the Mid-Florida Conference announced the regular season awards and 12 Saints and Head Coach Chris Ahern were honored for their work on the diamond.
“Although we can nominate and vie for our players to be on the MFC team, the voting is in the hands of the other coaches (we can’t vote for our own players),” said SF Coach Chris Ahern. “The fact that we have six combined on first and second team all-conference, and six honorable mentions speaks to the recognition of the contribution of the players to our team.”
Sophomore Karla Claudio led the way, earning First Team All-MFC honors and was also named the MFC Pitcher of the Year. In the circle Claudio was 18-6 with a 0.98 ERA and 208 strikeouts in 150 innings. As a batter she was equally effective, hitting .434 with 12 homers, 11 doubles and 44 RBI.
Sophomore infielder Sid Masso was the other First Team selection. Masso finished the regular season hitting .325 with seven doubles, a homerun and 31 RBI, good for second on the team.
Four players were represented on the Second Team: freshman shortstop Galis Lozada (.320 BA, 6 2B , 41 R, 11 SB); sophomore centerfielder and defensive specialist Aileen Fiallo (.232 BA, one homerun, 12 RBI); freshman pitcher Amber Maxey (12-1, 1.88 ERA, 48 K); and freshman catcher Yanira Sanchez (.238 BA, 3 HR, 19 RBI).
Six Saints were named Honorable Mention: freshman outfielder Megan McDonald (.248 BA, 8 HR, 27 RBI); freshman infielder Erin Marsh (.261 BA, 6 2B, 10 RBI); freshman outfielder Celeste Bradshaw (.205 BA, 4 HR, 19 RBI); freshman infielder Rachel Hoeft (.310 BA, 6 2B, 23 RBI); freshman infielder Geena Capitini (.320 BA, 2 HR, 21 RBI); and sophomore catcher Layne McDermond (.109 BA, 7 RBI).
Coach Chris Ahern was named the MFC Coach of the Year for the eighth time in the last nine years.
