Gainesville, FL – Both the Santa Fe baseball and fastpitch teams got off to good starts over the weekend as they cruised to victories over travel ball teams in their fall debuts.

Fastpitch battled the Jacksonville Bandits on Saturday, September 14, scoring 17 runs and belted two homeruns in the two wins.  The Bandits put up three runs in the first game but were shut out by three Saints pitchers in game two.  SF travels to the University of North Florida on Saturday for a double header at 1:00 PM.

The baseball team took care of the Gainesville Naturals on Sunday, September 15, winning game one 17-3 and game two 8-1.  SF totaled 13 hits, including eight for extra bases in the game one victory.  Jarred Shouppe led the way, going 2-for-2 with a grand slam and five RBI, Andrew Fears was 3-for-3 with two triples, Jonathan Camp was 2-for-3 with a triple, double and two RBI, Chipper Andzel finished 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI, and University of Miami transfer Roger Gonzalez belted a two run homer.

Buchholz High School product Derek Vail tossed two shutout innings and Keystone Heights High graduate Chas Julius threw 1.1 innings, striking out all four batters he faced.

Game two saw more of the same as SF pounded out 12 hits, six of them for extra bases.  Fort White product Kevin Dupree had a great college debut, blasting a homerun and a double to go 2-for-3.  Camp stayed hot, going 2-for-2 to finish 4-for-5 on the day.

Jack Charleston, a Buchholz High School graduate, tossed two perfect innings with five strikeouts.  Together four pitchers combined on a two hitter with 13 K’s.

The Saints will host Chet Lemon’s Juice on Sunday, September 22 in a double header scheduled to begin at 12 noon.
