Tori Baggett lead an inspired Santa Fe effort on Tuesday evening, scoring 21 points to lead the Saints past Albany Technical College 60-49. The win snaps a five game SF losing streak and gives the team momentum heading into their matchup with Tallahassee CC on Friday.
The Saints trailed 7-4 in the early going but a well-timed timeout by Coach Chanda Stebbins led to a 12-0 run to put SF up 16-7. Albany slowed the Santa Fe offense over the rest of the half but trailed 34-22 at the break thanks in part to a 19% field goal percentage over the first 20 minutes.
The Titans started the second half on an 8-0 run sparked by two Ashley Towns three pointers. The Saints answered right back and pushed the lead out to a game high 16 with 8:28 remaining. Albany Tech again rallied, this time outscoring SF 15-3 over a five minute stretch to cut the deficit to 53-49.
Tori Baggett stopped the Titan rally with a three point play on a made layup and the Saints held Albany scoreless over the final three minutes to collect the 60-49 win.
Baggett led Santa Fe in scoring and rebounding, pulling down eight boards on the night. Jocelyn Mousty finished with eight points and five rebounds, and Ifti Dunne scored seven.
The Saints will look to make it two in a row when Tallahassee CC visits Gainesville on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:00 PM. The game can be seen live on www.ihigh.com/santafesaints
