Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints dropped game one of a double header 8-7 on the road at South Georgia College Monday afternoon, but rallied for a 5-2 extra inning win in the second half of the double dip.

The FCSAA #9 Saints (2-1) trailed 6-1 through four innings of the first contest but rallied to take a 7-6 lead on the strength of a six run top half of the fifth.  George Ragsdale and Roger Gonzalez delivered the big blows in the inning with two RBI apiece.  South Georgia took the lead right back in the bottom of the sixth with two runs and held on for the one run win.

Ragsdale finished game one 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double and Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with two RBI.  Jeremy Graf (0-1) was credited with the loss.

Game two was a pitching duel that wasn’t decided until the tenth inning.  SGC took the early lead with two in the second but the Saints bounced right back with two in the top of the third.   Both bullpens dominated from there until the Saints broke through for three in the top of the tenth on RBI by Evan Barnes, AJ Mazzurco and a South Georgia error.

Connor Rooney started on the hill and tossed 4.2 innings, allowing two runs.  Buchholz High grad Derek Vail pitched three scoreless innings of relief and Gainesville High grad Jake Reimer (1-0) earned the win with two shutout innings.

Casey Scoggins finished game two 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Payson Smith was 2-for-4 with a RBI.

The Saints travel to St. Petersburg College on Friday, February 7 for a 3:00 PM game against the Titans.
