Palatka, FL – The Santa Fe Saints split their Mid-Florida Conference opening double header against St. John’s State College on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 5-0 followed by a 3-2 loss in 10 innings.

Maddy Peres started game one in the circle and was dominant, striking out 12 in route to a complete game, two hit shutout.

Amber Maxey started game two and was lifted for Peres with Santa Fe (9-13, 1-1 MFC) ahead 2-1.  St. John’s came up big in the sixth, blasting a homerun to tie the score and send it to extra innings.  In the tenth, with the tiebreaker rule in place (teams start inning with a runner on second base), the Vikings held the Saints scoreless, and put one across in the bottom of the inning to earn the win.

Beri Scott finished the double header 3-for-8 with a stolen base and a run scored, and Erin Marsh was 2-for-5.

The Saints play a non-conference double header on Tuesday, March 12 at home against South Florida State College at 2:00 PM.
