FSC-J Narrowly Tops Santa Fe, 7-6

Jonathan Camp hit his second homerun of the season

The Blue Wave of Florida State College-Jacksonville scored in just one inning on Friday afternoon against the Santa Fe Saints, but it was enough to pull out the 7-6 victory in an important conference game for both teams.  The loss drops SF to 18-11 overall and 6-4 in the Mid-Florida Conference.

The Saints took an early 2-0 lead in the third on RBI hits by Casey Scoggins and George Ragsdale.  They added a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by AJ Mazzurco to make it 3-0.  The sixth inning is where the trouble started and ended for Santa Fe however, as the Saints surrendered seven runs on five hits to put themselves in a 7-3 hole.

SF chipped away with a run in the seventh on a Blue Wave error, and Jonathan Camp made it interesting in the ninth with a deep homerun to left to cut it to 7-6.  That’s where the rally would stop as FSC-J cut it short with a strikeout to end the game.

Jonathan Camp finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and his second homerun of the season.  Payson Smith was 2-for-4 and Casey Scoggins finished 1-for-3 with a RBI.

The Saints will host FSC-J on Saturday, March 29 at 2:00 PM following the Santa Fe Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 11 a.m.
