United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities April 10

The UN convention will take place Thursday, April 10 at 4 p.m. in WA-104. There will be an introductory discussion by Dr. Bea Awoniyi and a panel discussion by a delegation from Qalqilya School for the Deaf in Palestine who are visiting as part of Gainesville’s Sister Cities program.

Dr. Bea Awoniyi is Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs at Santa Fe College where she serves as an Ombudsperson and oversees the Disabilities Resource Center. She is the president-elect of the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), an organization dedicated to promoting full and equal participation by individuals with disabilities in higher education and formulating policies to help achieve this goal. Dr. Awoniyi is a native of Nigeria and holds a doctoral degree in Community College Leadership from Colorado State University. Before joining Santa Fe College, she served as Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the Student Disability Resource Center at Florida State University.
