Pensacola, FL – Beri Scott provided a pair of two out RBI doubles to pace the Santa Fe Saints past Daytona State College 8-3 in the second round of the FCSAA State Tournament on Saturday afternoon, the second win in a row for the Saints. The win moves SF on to the finals of the Atlantic District winner’s bracket against the College of Central Florida on Sunday, May 4 at 2:00 PM CST.
Beri Scott got the Saints (36-21) going in the second with a RBI double to deep center, plating the first run of the game in the second inning.
Maddy Peres put another run on the board in the third with an RBI groundout, scoring Sid Masso who doubled to start the inning. Scott kept the rally going with a two out, two RBI double over the centerfielder’s head to give SF a 4-0 lead.
Daytona scored one in the third and one in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-2. Amber Maxey came in in relief of Maddy Peres in the fourth to record the final out on one pitch to cut the rally short.
Santa Fe exploded in the fifth for four runs to pull away. Celeste Bradshaw started things with a RBI double and Erin Marsh followed her with a single to score the second run of the frame. Sid Masso put two insurance runs on the board with a double to right center field for an 8-2 lead.
The Falcons would score one in the seventh, but an interference call on the DSC runner going from first two second would prove to be the final out.
Maxey picked up the win with 3.1 innings of work. She struck out four and allowed just a lone run.
Scott led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI, and Sid Masso was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
