Because of recent attacks in Gainesville that have been reported in the media, I ask every student and employee to be vigilant. While these assaults have occurred on or near the University of Florida campus, they could happen anywhere.
Coincidentally, this is Safe Santa Fe Week when we emphasize safety on campus. I would like to take this opportunity to share information from this initiative with you. We want everyone to know about the services we offer and to take necessary precautions.
- We ask that you be aware of your surroundings.
- Walk in pairs and avoid using your cell phone while walking.
- Stay in well-lit areas and avoid secluded places.
- Trust your instincts.
- If you see someone or something that concerns you, leave the area and contact police immediately.
The Santa Fe Police Department and the Santa Fe Counseling Center will conduct a Personal Safety Workshop on Friday September 12 at 1 p.m., in R-01.
We are one of only four colleges in the Florida College System with a sworn police department. Our officers are available to assist you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Police escorts are available by calling our police department at 395-5519. We also have several emergency call stations (blue phones) on the Northwest Campus.
In the upcoming weeks we will offer a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Class and later bystander training. We share campus safety messages through social media and on the college website.
