Saints pick up two more wins in Panama City

For the second day in a row, the Santa Fe Saints made quick work of their opponents, downing Gadsden State Community College 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-13) and then Snead State Community College (25-10, 25-3, 25-17).  SF (10-1) took all 12 sets at the Gulf Coast State College tournament and only allowed 20 points or more in one set.

Ruth Harrington led the way against Gadsden, recording nine kills on 15 attempts, and Julie Fuchs also had nine kills, and Farah Rajaee piled up 31 assists.  Ann-Lorrayne Bzoch displayed her standard solid defense, digging 15 balls.

“Ruth was the key to our win today,” said SF Coach Nick Cheronis.  “It wasn’t just her hitting, but her leadership against a tough opponent carried us through the match.”

The second match of the day saw much of the same as the FCSAA #4 Saints cruised past Snead State 3-0 and recorded their second 25-3 set win of the tournament.  Savannah Young powered SF with 12 kills and hit .579.  Kaylin Powell, Amber Hendry, Julie Fuchs, and Ruth Harrington had five kills apiece, and Chelsea Dola and Rajaee had 17 assists each.

“When your team hits .514 for a match you are doing a lot of things right,” said Cheronis.  “There was great energy from the beginning to the end. It was a great team effort.”

Santa Fe will return home for a match against trinity Baptist College on Tuesday, September 16 at 7:00 PM.  The game can be seen live on www.ihigh.com/santafesaints. For a full schedule, please visit www.santafesaints.com.
