SF Teaching Zoo welcomes baby to the gibbon family

Cheers broke out last month at the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo when news of a new arrival was announced to keepers and staff. On the morning of March 21, keepers found Cajun, the white-handed gibbon, with the tiny arms of a newborn baby wrapped around her. Guests attending the zoo that spring Saturday morning were given the opportunity to see Cajun singing throughout the day with her baby, only hours old, in tote.

The newly built enclosure the gibbons now call home offers the ideal setting for raising their new addition. There are numerous ropes and bamboo for Eddie and their two year old son, Rainer, to swing on while Cajun cuddles with her little one.

Come by the zoo, open seven days a week from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., to visit with the happy family and all the other zoo residents. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for children, and  children 3 and under are free. As always, any Santa Fe College student or staff member with ID is free.  For more information visit www.sfcollege.edu/zoo or call 352-395-5601.
