Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo and Kika Silva Pla Planetarium will host an exciting, event-packed weekend to celebrate World Oceans Day on June 6 and 7. There will be crafts, face painting, keeper talks, training demonstrations, animal encounters, and talks with local groups working the front lines of ocean conservation will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Special presentations of “Dynamic Earth” will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the planetarium both days.
As part of the event and to raise awareness, Alachua County Hazardous Waste Collection is kicking off the weekend celebration by setting up a collection site in front of the zoo Saturday morning. Anyone may bring small household hazardous waste items to dispose of free of charge. Items include rechargeable batteries, cell phones and compact florescent lamps.
Zoo Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for children age 3 and over and UF staff/students and seniors. Admission is free for SF students and staff (with ID) and children age 3 and under. Planetarium admission prices are the same. For more information, visit www.sfcollege.edu/zoo or call 352-395-5601.
