Former SF baseball player Mallex Smith Named “Double A” All-Star

Former Santa Fe Saint Mallex Smith (MiLB page) made a quick impression in professional baseball in 2012, and hasn’t slowed down since.  Smith, currently with the Mississippi Braves, was recently named to the Southern League (Double A) All-Star game as an outfielder.  The game will take place on June 23 at 7:35 p.m. in Montgomery, Alabama.

Through the first half of the season, Smith is second in the league in batting average, hitting a robust .337 (67-for-199), and second in stolen bases with 22, three behind the leader.

Smith’s All-Star campaign in 2015 follows up a career year in 2014 where he led every level of professional baseball with 88 stolen bases between time in the California League and the Midwest league.  In 320 career Minor League games, he has 191 steals and a .297 batting average, while reaching bases at a .388 clip.
