The newly minted number one team in the state started the defense of their Mid-Florida Conference championship off on the right foot, defeating St. John’s River State College in straight sets to improve to 13-2 on the season.
Santa Fe jumped all over the Vikings in set one and cruised to a 25-13 win, backing that up with a strong 25-17 set two victory. SJRSC made things more difficult on the Saints in the third set, but SF was able to right the ship and put the match away with a 25-21 victory, sealing the straight set win.
Nadine Williams led Santa Fe offensively, finishing with 19 kills, Sheyanne Sullivan chipped in eight kills, Kaylin Powell had six kills and six blocks, and Kasey Valentin provided solid defense with 17 digs.
“We were very business-like and played with great energy,” said SF Coach Nick Cheronis.
The Saints (13-2, 1-0 MFC) will continue Mid-Florida Conference play on Thursday, Sept. 24 at home against Florida State College – Jacksonville. Fans can watch live at www.santafesaints.com
