Polk State College came to play on Friday in Gainesville, defeating the Saints (17-4, 5-1 MFC) in a hotly contested match, 3-0 (14-25, 36-38, 22-25), displaying why they are currently the number one ranked team in the FCSAA.
The #3 Saints rebounded from a sluggish second set to take Polk to the brink, playing a marathon second set, but ultimately fell 38-36 to fall behind 2-0.
SF came out strong in the third set, needing to win the next three to win the match, but Polk again stormed back to take the match with a 25-22 win.
Sheyanne Sullivan led Santa Fe with 10 kills, Nadine Williams had seven, and Julie Fuchs six.
The Saints will look to rebound from this non-conference loss when they travel to Jacksonville to take on FSC-J in a MFC match at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
