Before you purchase that 3-ring notebook, check with Tyffany (tyffany.wishart@sfcollege.edu) to see if there is any in Surplus that will meet your needs. There are lots of 3-ring (“O” ring and “D” ring) notebook in sizes from 2″ up to 6″ available for free to any SF department that can use them.
