Music Professor Steve Bingham, Ph.D., directs all three of the bands that are featured in the concert.

The Big Band will perform “It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing”; “Blue Skies,” featuring Rowan Housden on vocals; “Samantha,” a beautiful alto saxophone ballad; “Samba De Los Gatos,” an upbeat samba tune; “You Gotta Try,” a fast swing number that features two tenor saxophone players; “Sway,” with vocals by Alex Desmond; and “Act Your Age,” a funk rock selection by Gordon Goodwin.

The Jazz Combo will feature Andrea Garcia singing “All of Me” along with instrumental selections that include “Autumn Leaves,” “Song for My Father,” and “A Night in Tunisia.”

The Rhythm & Blues Review will feature Rowan Housden singing Wilson Pickett’s “Midnight Hour,” Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools,” Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood,” and James Brown’s classic, “I Feel Good.”

“Jazz Up Spring” is sponsored in part by the SF College Fine Arts Department and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and Visit Gainesville, a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in conjunction with the Alachua County Tourist Development Council.
