Over the weekend, the highly-decorated Santa Fe College Model UN team competed against forty schools from the Southern Region and took home seven awards. They researched international issues such as NATO expansion, terrorism and violence against journalists for months in advance, they wrote multiple policy briefs, they debated and they caucused–ultimately emerging with two Best Paper Awards, two Most Improved Delegate Awards, and two Overall Honorable Delegation Awards. Additionally, the team captain, Kayla Caniff took home her third in a row Outstanding Delegate Award.
Model UN adviser, Professor Jennifer Forshee, believes this may have been the team’s most successful conference yet. She is looking forward to the end of the semester when seven of the team’s most advanced members will travel to Chicago, Il for a conference including Ivy League schools and multiple nationally ranked delegations.
The following students participated in the conference: Kayla Caniff, Ryan Hamilton, Manuel Fuentes, Reeya Gupta, Nina and Carlos Alfonzo, Meg Heagerty, Carl Morelli, Kevin Mora, Taylor Shrum, Tyler Dixon, Daniel Upthegrove, Hunter Williamson, Karran Doekhi and Ethan Huber.
