SANTA FE SAINTS FAST PITCH SOFTBALL LIGHT UP SCOREBOARD IN SWEEP OF LAKE SUMTER, 14-12 AND 8-6

It may not have gone like Coach Chris Ahern drew it up, but the Santa Fe Saints picked up two crucial wins on Sunday in Leesburg, piling up 22 runs and 35 hits in a double header sweep of Lake Sumter State College.  The wins improve SF to 20-24 overall and 7-11 in MFC play, currently in playoff position in fourth place.

The first game of the double header was a slug fest, with the Saints pulling out an extra inning victory 14-12.  Destiny Carroll had a huge game at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and a RBI.  Cassandra Garcia was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, a double, and a RBI, Sarah Ortiz finished 2-for-2 with a double, and four RBI, Brashell Keys was 2-for-5 with three RBI, and Ki Vega was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Vega provided the winning hit in the eighth, doubling home a pair of runs to snap a 12-12 deadlock.

Santa Fe’s offensive onslaught didn’t end in game one as the Saints scored eight runs in game two on 18 hits.  They built a 6-0 lead before the Lakehawks fought back to make it 6-4 in the fifth. Both teams scored a single run in each of the sixth and seventh innings and SF held on for the two run win.

Adrix Paradizo Ramos was 3-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored, Chelsea Malcolm was 4-for-5 with a RBI, and Brashell Keys 3-for-4 with a RBI.

The Saints will host Florida State College-Jacksonville on Tuesday, April 5 at 2:30 and 4:30 PM.
