Santa Fe assistant fastpitch softball coach Karla Claudio has had a whirl wind few months, starting with her first venture into coaching with the SF Saints last Fall, followed by her professional debut in Italy in April.
Claudio used a break in the Italian schedule to go home to Puerto Rico for a four day visit for Father’s Day recently, where she rejoined her summer league team and threw a no hitter with 17 strikeouts. She also had a triple and knocked in the lone run of the game.
She heads back to Italy this week to finish her regular season games, as her team seeks a berth in the post season.
But her adventures don’t stop there. She will then join with the Puerto Rico National team, of which she is the captain, in Oklahoma City, OK for the World Cup of Softball XI on July 5-10, and then travel to Canada for the XV WBSC Women’s World Championship on July 15-24.
Should her Italian profession team, the Caronno Rheavendors make the playoffs, she will then return to Italy for the remainder of the season before heading back to Gainesville to resume her assistant coaching duties. Should the Rheavendors not make the post season she will take some time off before returning to her home away from home in Gainesville to meet with and begin coaching the 2016-17 Saints.
