On Saturday in Gainesville the Santa Fe Saints faced a tough challenge from two of the FCSAA’s best, and came out on top in both, sweeping the defending state champion Hillsborough Hawks in the morning and won in four sets against Eastern Florida State in the afternoon. The wins move SF to 7-4 on the season.
“This was a good weekend for the Saints as we push towards conference play,” said SF Coach Nick Cheronis. “Blocking is becoming more consistent, now our serving and passing games need to go to the next level.”
Santa Fe made quick work of Hillsborough in the first match of the day, winning 25-22, 25-15, 25-18. Nadine Williams and Sterling Williamson had 11 kills each, and Caylee Cox led the way with 15 digs.
Defense was the name of the game against the Titans of Eastern Florida. Meraiah Hill had a game high eight blocks and Sterling Williamson contributed seven of her own, the Saints dominating at the net all match for the four set victory. Nadine Williams finished with 11 kills and 17 digs, and Ashton Marshall had a team high 23 digs.
SF will have a few days off before returning to the court against Webber International University on Wednesday, September 14 in Gainesville at 7p.m.
