SAINTS WIN HOME OPENER OVER SCF, 85-77

Five players scored in double figures for Santa Fe College on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville as the Saints Men’s Basketball team pulled out an 85-77 win over the State College of Florida in their home opener.  The win evens SF’s record at 2-2 on the season.

“This was a great way to start out at home,” said SF Coach Chris Mowry.  “It was the first time in front of the home fans for everyone except Josh [Hawkins], and it was good to see them get a win.”

It was a back and forth game in the first half, with SCF leading by as many as eight points.  Dylan Causewell cut the margin to five at 39-34 with a shot at the buzzer to give the Saints the momentum heading into the locker room.

Darrell Jones made his presence felt in the second half, scoring back to back buckets to tie and then give SF the lead four minutes into the second half.

The Saints (2-2) never lost the lead and led by as many as 11 before closing out the 85-77 win.

“We did a better job moving the ball in the second half,” said Mowry.  “We played with composure and will continue to grow as we get more experience.”

David-Lee Jones led the way with 17 points and six assists, Josh Hawkins had 15 points, Dylan Causewell and D-Juan Taylor-Hodge had 14 each, and Darrell Jones had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Saints will be back out on the road Tuesday, November 15 in Tallahassee at 7:30 p.m.
