Polk State College played some of their best volleyball of the tournament Saturday evening, defeating Santa Fe College in the NJCAA third place match 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 17-25, 13-25).
The Eagles hit .217, with a game high 22 kills for Yue Wu. For Santa Fe Sterling Williamson had a team high 11 kills.
Santa Fe played their best in the second set, scoring the final six points to win it 25-22. From there the Eagles of Polk State capitalized on their opportunities and won the third and fourth sets to clinch third place. The Saints finish fourth in the nation, their best finish in school history, a history that spans just three years.
This was the final match for a sophomore class that won 40 matches in two years to just 21 losses, made two FCSAA Tournament appearances, and one NJCAA Final Four.
