SANTA FE OPENS 2017 WITH 69-43 WIN OVER INDIAN RIVER

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (7-6) picked up right where they left off in 2016, starting off the new year with a victory over Indian River by a score of 69-43, the same team they defeated in their last game of 2016.

The game was SF’s from the outset as they built a double-digit lead just five minutes into the game and despite not having their best shooting night of the season, made it a 20-point halftime lead 37-17.

In the second half Santa Fe pushed the margin to as much as 30, closing out the 26-point win and best defensive effort of the season.

Santa Fe shot 41 percent from the field for the game, but had one of their best defensive games of the season, holding the Pioneers to single digit points in each of the first three quarters, and 22.6 percent shooting for the game.  SF also forced 25 turnovers and outrebounded IRSC 42-35.

Corey Staples led a balanced Saints scoring effort, going for 12 points.  Evelina Avleeva scored 11 points and Rayven Wade had eight points and nine rebounds.

The Saints next game will be a Mid-Florida Conference contest at Hillsborough CC Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.
