Congratulations Santa Fe College Honors Students

honors studentsFrancisco Lourenco was selected to participate in the Harvard Stem Cell Institute Internship Program (HIP) this summer in Boston. This year, 650 candidates submitted complete applications for this year’s program.  His was one of 35 which met or exceeded the rigorous review standards.

Swan Htun was selected to participate in a Summer internship at the National Institutes of Health under the Community College Summer Enrichment Program.  In addition to performing full-time research in a laboratory or on a project at the NIH, Swan and other CCSEP interns will meet each week as a group to participate in workshops and courses focused on the development of academic and professional skills in preparation for careers in health care and in social, behavioral and biomedical research.

At this weekend’s Florida Collegiate Honors Council Conference, Jessica Trochez was awarded the $1,000 Dr. Mary Jo Henderson scholarship, awarded to the state / community college honors student who best exemplifies the scholarship, leadership, and engagement qualities of a two-year honors program student.  Lexi Eganand and Alita Milan won first and third place, respectively, for their works of short fiction, and Carlos Alfonzo Marcelino won third place for his poem. Attending the conference and presenting projects completed for Honors were Nina Alfonzo, Carlos Alfonzo Marcelino, Rafael Alfonzo Marcelino, Carlota Bonnet, Tony Faieta, Lu Moros and Jessica Trochez.
