SF BASEBALL – Saints Set to Defend FCSAA Championship in Lakeland May 6-10

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA Tournament opens up on May 5 in Lakeland at Joker Marchant Stadium, but for the first day of games, the Saints will be spectators due to a first round bye.  The Mid-Florida Conference champions will watch Eastern Florida State College and Northwest Florida State College battle it out for the right to play the defending champs on Saturday, May 6.  Every game of the tournament will be broadcast on the FCSAA YouTube channel.

Santa Fe College and the winner of that first round contest will play on Saturday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m.  The tournament is double elimination and regardless of the outcome of game one, the Saints will play on Sunday.  Should SF win their game on Saturday, they would play at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, but should they lose, the game will be at 10:00 a.m.

The Saints enter the tournament as the MFC #1 seed and a 36-11 record.  Eight players were honored by the MFC as first or second team all-conference, and Coach Johnny Wiggs won his seventh MFC Coach of the Year award.  Troy Bacon was named the Fireman (closer) of the Year, Alex Goebel picked up Defensive Player of the Year, and Robert Girgis was the Pitcher of the Year.

Santa Fe College will be defending their 2016 championship.  They defeated Chipola College 6-4 in the championship game and advanced on to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, CO.
