September 13, 2017 – Dr. Jackson Sasser sent a message to all Santa Fe College Students and Colleagues that Santa Fe College will continue to be closed Thursday and Friday, September 14 and 15.
He stated that, “Many of our students and employees do not have power and travel has become more difficult. The high probability of I-75 closing, the certainty of state roads closing and the rise of the Santa Fe River is redirecting south Florida evacuees into alternate routes through our area, depleting an already reduced fuel supply.” Dr. Sasser said that the well-being and safety of SF students and colleagues requires Santa Fe College to close Thursday and Friday.
He explained that exempt employees may access the college as needed Friday, September 15, 2017, to prepare for students returning Monday if it is safe for you. All campuses have been returned to operational status.
This means that the college remains closed through Sunday, Sept. 17 and will reopen Monday, Sept. 18. While college facilities have been inspected and prepared, external conditions with traffic, utilities, and gas shortages have impacted our ability to resume operations before Monday, Sept. 18. While the college is not open on Thursday and Friday, exempt personnel who need to come to the college on Friday to prepare for reopening on Monday may return if they are able to and elect to do so.
