February 27, 2018 – The FCSAA No. 7 Santa Fe Saints (21-10) took care of business Monday evening in Gainesville, defeating Daytona State College 77-59 in the first round of the Mid-Florida Conference Tournament. The win sets up a date with the College of Central Florida tonight at 7 p.m. in Ocala. Fans can watch a live stream of the game through Central Florida’s website. The winner of that game will advance on to the FCSAA State Tournament, also in Ocala, March 7-10.
Ivan Smith led a balanced offensive attack for SF finishing with 21 points, including a 10-for-10 night at the free throw line.
The Saints grabbed an early lead and used the three point shot to take a 33-27 lead into halftime. SF made seven three pointers in the first half, and 11 for the entire game.
The Saints women’s basketball team will also be in action tonight when they host Florida State College – Jacksonville in the MFC Tournament final. Fans unable to make the 7 p.m. tip in the SF gym can watch the game on the Saints Sports Network.
