NWS map of elevated severe weeather threat for North Central Florida

March 19, 2018 – The National Weather Service (NWS) is monitoring severe storms expected to impact North Central Florida through Tuesday afternoon. Santa Fe College Emergency Management officials are in contact with the NWS and will provide updates and information as it becomes available.

Storms entered the region early Monday morning with heavy rains and severe winds. The storms were strong enough to knock down trees, cutting power off to customers of regional power providers.

Forecasters say the strong winds and rains are expected for the area until the evening hours today, when the rain should temporarily subside.

A cold front is expected to move into the area overnight and bring additional, and potentially more damaging storms to North Central Florida starting early Tuesday morning.

Although there are currently no plans to close the college, SF students, faculty and staff are encouraged to take whatever steps they deem necessary to ensure their personal safety.
