August 29, 2018 – Santa Fe College volleyball knocked off Hillsborough in straight sets 25-13, 25-16, 28-26 to go to 5-0 on the young season. The Saints were led by sophomore outside hitter Aspen Dangren with 12 kills and a .423 hitting percentage for the match. Fellow sophomore Leah Wilcox added 10 more kills and hit .429. Local Newberry product Grace Daugherty added 6 more kills to lead the Saints.
“The scores don’t reflect it, but we just beat a very good Hillsborough team,” said head coach Nick Cheronis. “When we go there next week, we will have our hands full.”
SF dominated the first two sets, but Hillsborough battled in the third set and had a 23-21 lead before the Saints came back to win.
“What I love about this group is even when the other team made a run, the players all believed they were going to win,” added Cheronis. “That’s special.”
After matches at Eastern Florida Saturday and Hillsborough next Tuesday, the Saints return home Wednesday, Sept. 5, to face St. John’s River at 7 p.m.
