October 8, 2018 – Santa Fe College volleyball moved into a tie for first place in the Panhandle Conference with a 3-0 win over Pensacola State College 25-11, 25-22, 25-14 Saturday afternoon.
The win improves SF to 3-1 in conference play and 16-2 overall.
The Saints were led by Sophomore outside hitter Leah Wilcox with seven kills, but the story of the match was team blocking. The Saints totaled 13 blocks in the three-set win.
“Our middles did an outstanding job of closing down seams and forcing Pensacola State into some unforced errors,” said Head Coach Nick Cheronis.
After a cruise win in set one, the Saints had to battle in set two. With the score tied at 22, SF called timeout and came up with a crucial kill by Sophomore Brooke Ruud to go up 23-22.
“I have a lot of respect for Pensacola State,” said Cheronis. “After the first set, they could have easily rolled over, but they fought us tooth and nail. We have to play them again on Thursday at their place and that is going to be a war.”
