October 15, 2018 – International Pronouns Day, is Wednesday, Oct. 17, and around the world, many college campuses and organizations will host events that seek to make asking, sharing, and respecting personal pronouns commonplace.
Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves shows respect and dignity. Being referred to by the wrong pronouns particularly affects transgender and gender nonconforming people. At Santa Fe College, staff will be tabling from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the S-breezeway with “Ask me my pronouns” buttons. Students and staff can stop by the table to pick up a button to wear in recognition of International Pronouns Day.
