SF Volleyball: Saints Prepare for Postseason

October 29, 2018 – The Santa Fe College volleyball team finished their regular season with a loss to Miami-Dade State College, the No. 1 team in the nation Saturday afternoon.

MDSC (24-0, 11-0 SC) remained undefeated on the season with a convincing 3-0 defeat of the Saints on a neutral floor at Daytona State College. The Sharks are back-to-back defending State and National Champions and have not lost a match since the 2016 season.

“There’s a reason Miami-Dade is number one in the country,” said SF head coach Nick Cheronis. “They excel at every phase of the game.”

The Saints played better as the match progressed, losing set three 25-23 after losing the opening set 25-15 and set two 25-20.

Leah Wilcox led the Saints with nine kills while Aspen Dangren and Jocelyn Garcia registered seven kills each. Garcia recorded a .375 hitting percentage for the match.

SF finishes the 2018 regular season with an overall record of 19-3 and with a Panhandle Conference Championship under their belt as they prepare for the NJCAA District/Florida College System Activities Association State Tournament in Bradenton Nov. 2-4.

The Saints will take on Indian River State College at 1 p.m. at the Bradenton Area Civic Center Friday, Nov. 2. They will play again at 7 p.m. that night against either Polk State College or Richard Bland College. The tournament is a double elimination format that is scheduled to wrap up Sunday, Nov. 4. All tournament games will be broadcast on the FCSAA Digital Network.

Three teams from the eight-team tournament will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament held in Hutchinson, Kansas, Nov. 15-17.
