November 26, 2018 – The Santa Fe Saints men’s basketball team (6-2) earned their fifth consecutive win with a strong second half performance leading to a 90-83 win over the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota Saturday afternoon at the SF gymnasium.
Both teams started slowly but Miles Coleman scored 12 points and John Mason nine in the opening half to give the Saints 41-37 lead at the break.
“I thought we came out a little sloppy, but we refocused at the half and were able to hold them off at the end,” said head coach Chris Mowry. “We didn’t play the way we are capable of playing for 40 minutes, but we stepped up and did some good things when we had to.”
The Saints defense set the pace early in the second half enabling the Saints to pull out to a 14 point lead. SF made just 3 of 8 free throws and committed some untimely turnovers in the second half allowing SCF (4-4) to climb back into the game.
Coleman led the Saints with 22 points while Mason scored 21 and Admir Besovic 20.
The Saints will host Indian River State College at the SF gymnasium Monday, Nov. 26, with the tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
