Free “Winds Go Pops” Band Concert Is Feb. 28, 2019, in the SF Fine Arts Hall Lobby

February 7, 2019 – The Santa Fe College Wind Ensemble will present a free “Winds Go Pops” concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, in the lobby of the Fine Arts Hall on SF’s Northwest Campus.

“This annual concert features familiar and well-loved Broadway and movie show tunes,” explained Dr. Steve Bingham, Ph.D., who directs the college bands. Musical selections on the program include “Memory” from Cats, “All That Jazz” from Chicago, and movie themes from Man of La Mancha and the Star Wars Epic, Part 1.

Student band members meet twice a week to rehearse with Bingham. “The wind ensemble is smaller than a full orchestra,” he explained, “so we have one or two people playing a part instead of the 10 to 12 people in an orchestra. Playing in a small wind ensemble is tougher on the musicians because they can’t hide!” Students are graded in part based on their performance in the concert.

For more information about the concert, call Bingham at 352-395-5313, or call the SF Fine Arts Box Office at 352-395-4181.
