SF Brain Bowl Team Qualifies for Championship

February 14, 2019 – The Santa Fe College Brain Bowl team competed in the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) sectional tournament in Bradenton, Florida Jan. 26. The team placed in the top 24 in the nation and received an invitation to the Community College Championship Tournament (CCCT) which will be held in Orlando in early March.

Saturday, Feb. 9, SF was represented by two teams at the Florida College System Activities Association East Central Regional Championship Tournament. The SF A-team, consisting of Nathan Bowcock, Justin Broce, Mason Sexton, and Grace Weng, went undefeated at the tournament, becoming the East Central champions and qualified automatically for the Florida State Championship Tournament. The SF-A team members also scored well individually, with Broce placing first, Wend third and Hundie fifth in individual scores.

The SF B-team, featuring Tyler Felde, Renate Ferrante, Mesay Hundie, and Keana Poindexter finished in third place in the tournament.

Brain Bowl is an academic quiz tournament in which students on teams use buzzers to “buzz in” and answer questions on topics in literature, history, humanities, science, and mathematics. The team with the most points wins the match.
