SF Baseball: Churchill No-Hitter Leads Saints to 10-0 Win

April 4, 2019 – The Santa Fe Saints baseball team exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and Connor Churchill pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the Saints 10-0 win over Florida State College – Jacksonville.

Churchill (6-3) joins two other SF pitchers with no-hitters this year although his is the shortest, due to the NJCAA 10-run rule. Anthony Arguelles threw a seven-inning no-hitter over South Florida State College and Brooks Walton threw a nine-inning no-hitter over Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College earlier in the season.

“Real good win of course,” said SF head coach Johnny Wiggs, “it was nice to get an easy one. Church threw great and the big fifth inning was what we needed.

Cade Westbrook had three hits for the Saints while Garrett Mathes had two including his team-leading fourth home run of the year to start the fifth. Isaiah Perry hit his first college grand slam home run in the fifth and the Saints stole six bases in the game.

SF (26-13, 7-7 Mid-Florida Conference) have won four of their last five games and host Lake Sumter Saturday at 1 p.m.

“Hopefully we will continue on this roll and finish strong the last 10 games,” said Wiggs.
