LGBTQIA+ College News Updates

October 10, 2019 – Wednesday, Oct. 16, is International Pronouns Day. Around the world, many college campuses and organizations will host events that seek to make asking, sharing, and respecting personal pronouns commonplace. Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves shows respect and dignity. At Santa Fe College, Student Life staff will be tabling from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Building S-breezeway with “Ask me my pronouns” buttons. Students and employees can stop by the table to pick up a button to wear in recognition of International Pronouns Day.

Saturday, Oct. 26, is Gainesville’s Pride Parade and Festival. SF’s Access and Inclusion Committee will be tabling at the festival along with members of the LGBTQIA+ Faculty and Staff Affinity Group. If you would like to help table at this event, contact clarinda.choice@sfcollege.edu. Volunteers who sign up to table by Thursday, Oct. 17, will receive a free pride t-shirt.

The SF LGBTQIA+ Faculty & Staff Affinity Group holds semesterly meetings and regular socials to provide a welcoming and affirming space to attract, represent and retain LGBTQIA+ faculty and staff. This group aims to promote an inclusive campus, advocate for equitable policies for LGBTQIA+ students, faculty and staff, promote LGBTQIA+ visibility on campus and provide social and professional development opportunities for LGBTQIA+ faculty and staff.
