December 4, 2019 – The Saints women’s basketball team emerged victorious Tuesday, defeating the Hillsborough Community College Eagles 90 – 76 at the Santa Fe College gym.
The score stayed close in the first half, with seven lead changes and neither team leading by more than six points. The Saints entered the half with a 34 – 32 lead. SF took control late in the third quarter when they went on a 10 – 2 run to hold the lead for good.
Saints head coach Chanda Stebbins said, “Five people in double-figures really defines us and I hope that can continue. I liked the confidence with which Yairé (Rodriguez) shot the ball, and it was complemented by her six assists. She did a great job today of playing a complete game.” Stebbins continued, “I am happy that Cam (Pringle) and Danasia (Bogle) came into the game ready to play and contribute, I am proud of their efforts and production.”
Rodriguez led the Saints with 19 points in addition to her six assists. Bogle added 14 points and Zoé Alexander had 11 points and eight rebounds. Rounding out the double-digit scoring was Taniah Bowers with 10 points with six rebounds and Teagan Rothrock also having 10 points.
The win puts the Saints at 6-5 overall (0-0 MFC). SF will travel to Panama City Friday for the Florida Colleges Shootout. They play Eastern Florida State College Friday and Broward College Saturday. Both games are scheduled for noon.
