The deaths of George Floyd in Minnesota, Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, Breonna Taylor in Kentucky, and Tony McDade in Florida have amplified the nationwide discourse about racism. Santa Fe College is committed to a campus culture that embraces diversity and is free of discrimination, but the promise of that commitment depends on every individual to educate themselves about systemic racism and to share that knowledge in their spheres of influence. This is by no means an exhaustive list of resources, but the more you educate yourself, the more empowered you will be to recognize injustice and speak out against it.

whatever bounces off yours comes right through

This is my skin, I take every type of bullet to this skin.

And if you want to compare skins, lets think about this
as a game of one-sided Russian roulette. The gun
pointed
to my head has 6 out of 7 rounds and sometimes in
yours, not even one can be found.
 
And even when it’s the other way around, sometimes it
bounces off your skin and tears right through mine.
 
This is my skin, I take every type of bullet to this skin.
This is my skin, I take every type of pain to this skin. If
it’s not a bullet it’s another type of pain. You have a
choice
to participate in this game. But for me, I’m always in
this
game of Russian roulette.

  1. Listen without ego and defensiveness to people of color. Truly listen. Don’t scroll past articles written by people of color — read them.
  2. When you find out about racist incidents in your community, call the organization, company, or institution involved to tell them how upset you are.
  3. Find out if your local police department outfits all on-duty police officers with a body-camera and if they don’t, write to your city or town government representative and police chief to advocate for it. Learn more about SFPD’s Body-Cam program here.
  4. Support black businesses. Find them on WeBuyBlack, The Black Wallet, and Official Black Wall Street
