Strong Thunderstorms Possible Through the Weekend

August 21, 2020 – The administration and emergency management at Santa Fe College are monitoring the weather over the weekend and into the first week of classes for the fall term.

The National Weather Service is calling for the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms, especially through Saturday afternoon. The storms could include heavy rains, damaging winds, hail and minor flooding in low-lying areas.

The college is also monitoring Tropical Storm Laura, which may strengthen into a hurricane early next week. The current guidance from the National Hurricane Center has the storm tracking into the Gulf of Mexico after possibly making landfall near the southwestern tip of Florida. Although the Santa Fe College service district is on the edge of the track of the storm, now is the time to prepare as we enter the heart of hurricane season.

This is also a good time to make sure your emergency contact information is updated. Students can enter their emergency contact information through eSantaFe, while faculty and staff can visit eStaff. All updates concerning severe weather will be available on the SF Alerts webpage.
