SFPD Welcomes New Hire and Issues Commendations Virtually This Year

December 16, 2020 – Santa Fe College and the SFPD welcome new Dispatcher Daniel Clifft. You will find him providing service at the SFPD front desk while training with another dispatcher and completing state credentialing as a telecommunicator.

Recognition was provided to various Santa Fe College Police Department members in 2020 that ordinarily would have been given in a formal awards ceremony. The pandemic eliminated that possibility so here are a few of the formal awards provided by either SF or external organizations to members throughout the year.

  • Second Safest College in the Nation – Recognition by the Safe Campus Summit in Las Vegas, NV. All staff received a lapel bar to wear in honor of this national accomplishment.
  • Life-Saving Award – Provided to Officers Anthony Manibusan and Derrik Bigelow for proactively recognizing a staff member in the parking lot unconscious & in distress. They provided lifesaving assistance. Dr. Broadie and VP Clemons provided them a certificate for their efforts.
  • Rotary Exemplary Effort – Periodic recognition honored by the Rotary Club of Downtown Gainesville. Provided to Dispatcher Liz Carter for exemplary work coordinating with many other areas of the college during the pandemic. Her name has been added to a plaque in the front lobby of the SFPD.
  • Awards of Excellence – Provided typically for large and/or complex projects above and beyond normal duties. Received by Sgt. Larry Cauthen for his work primarily with fleet maintenance and the body-worn camera programs. Sgt. Mark Barley for his role co-coordinating with the SF Teaching Zoo the #WhoCanYouCan Food Drive which collected over 5,000 cans for the food insecure. And Sgt. Precious Ford for her work leading to solving a burglary at the B&N Bookstore and other similar crimes off-campus involving the same subjects. All received certificates.
