Civic Engagement and Service at Santa Fe College hosts Ask Me Anything on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. via Zoom. SF students are invited to get to know local leaders and changemakers and ask questions. You can join us live via Zoom or e-mail your questions to sarah.blanc@sfcollege.edu.

February 6: Gainesville Black Professionals Annual Leadership Conference
SF will once again host the annual Leadership Conference of Gainesville Black Professionals. The online conference will be held on Saturday, February 6 from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. The conference is designed to encourage, support, inspire and equip professionals to reach for leadership positions in their chosen fields. Conference speakers include Kamal Latham, Dr. Jamie Baldwin, Dr. David Canton and Noevelle Conzalo. Santa Fe staff and students can attend the conference at no cost. This code gives access to a free ticket and also allow the registrant to purchase guest tickets at the discounted rate of $10.00 each.
February 4: SG Black History Month Trivia Night
Student Government Programs will host Black History Month Trivia Night on Thursday, February 4 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Questions will draw on a broad range of categories celebrating Black History Month. SF Students will be eligible to win gift cards and other prizes.
February 10: Virtual Conversations with Black Faculty and Staff
Each year, the Association of Black Faculty and Staff is proud to celebrate Black History Month with Virtual Conversations with Black Faculty and Staff, an exciting event that provides students an opportunity to network and build community with faculty, staff and peers of diverse backgrounds. Randall Williams: A Pre-20’s Dream
New York based fashion photographer and videographer Randall William’s video “A Pre-20’s Dream” is now playing in the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall lobby. Filmed between April and November 2019, this 10-minute video explores the people of the city through contrasting posed and observed moments. The Fine Arts Hall Lobby is open for visitors Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 3:00pm. Visitors should enter the lobby through the East doors, near the Box Office.
Rise: Santa Fe Students Respond to Racial Injustice
The ability of the arts to inspire social change is on full display in “Rise: Santa Fe Students Respond to Racial Injustice.” In Fall 2020, SF students worked with mentors throughout the college to refine and express their thoughts and feelings through music, dance, visual art, poetry/spoken word, and digital media, including animation. Black History Month Activity Bags
Stop by the Student Life lobby on the first floor of S-Building to pick up a Black History Month Activity Bag. Each bag contains all the materials you will need to get creative and learn about history and traditions throughout the African Diaspora and African American culture. SF students can pick up bags in the S-Lobby starting Monday, February 1. The lobby is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please bring your SFID. You may also pick up an additional bag for a friend if you bring their SFID. Students must be currently enrolled to participate. Supplies are limited!
Black History and Social Justice
Black history and social justice movements are inseparable, and Black resistance has inspired and galvanized social justice movements throughout United States’ history. As we celebrate Black History Month, February 20th is also the United Nations’ World Day of Social Justice. Learn more about historic social justice movements led by Black Americans with text and images provided by the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
