SFPD Increasing Traffic Patrols Near North Road Construction Project

February 2, 2021 – Santa Fe College police are reminding students, faculty and staff that the college-wide speed limit is 20 mph. The SFPD is also increasing patrols around North Road, where crews are working to extend the sidewalk from the SF Teaching Zoo to NW 83rd Street. There are a number of workers in the area and with the heavy equipment on North Road, sightlines for both motorists and workers may be obstructed.

The issue of pedestrian safety has been gaining attention in Gainesville and Alachua County, and the SFPD will be continuing to make sure all college facilities are as safe as possible.

The project will increase safety for students, faculty, staff and visitors to the Northwest Campus. The sidewalks are also designed for accessibility, ensuring that everyone can navigate and access the college. Crosswalks will be painted across the parking lot access roads, and a new crosswalk will be marked across North Road near the Library with an accompanying speed hump.

The project will take approximately two months to complete.
