Tropical Depression Fred Expected to Become Tropical Storm Over the Weekend

August 13, 2021 – Tropical Depression Fred continues to move along the northern coast of Cuba toward the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center is reporting that although Santa Fe College’s service district of Alachua and Bradford counties is not currently in the cone of the storm, the region can expect 2-4 inches of rain from the system over the weekend and into early Monday morning.

SF faculty and staff are encouraged to go to eStaff and verify that their emergency contact information is up to date. Students can also update their emergency contact information at eSantaFe. Although it is unlikely for this storm, in the event of a closure, or other emergency information, the college will send notifications through text messages, phone calls and other means to alert the college community.

The college community is also encouraged to make any preparations necessary, not just for this storm but throughout hurricane season. Use the ready.gov webpage for additional storm preparation information.

All official updates from the college concerning this storm will be posted on the SF Weather Alerts webpageThe next update will be posted by noon, Sunday, Aug. 15.
