NOTE – Santa Fe College will soon announce details on another COVID-19 vaccination incentive for students, faculty and staff. This incentive program, like the one held in the fall, will be fully voluntary. The college intends to implement the incentive program before spring break.
January 3, 2022 – Santa Fe College has partnered with the Alachua County Health Department to host a pair of COVID-19 vaccination events on Santa Fe College’s Northwest Campus. The Alachua County Health Department will be offering vaccines (first dose, second dose or booster shots) Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022 from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Rec Room on the first floor of Building S. Because of the number of events the health department is holding this week, there will be a limited number of staffing available and there is the potential for some short delays in getting vaccinated. The Alachua County Health Department will return the following Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, for another vaccination event from 12:30 until 3:30 p.m., also in the Rec Room in Building S.
The vaccination clinic is open to college students, employees and the public. Employees who are scheduled to work during these hours may coordinate participation with their supervisor. No appointments are needed, and consent forms can be signed either at the vaccination clinic, or completed in advance by accessing the Department of Health consent form through their website. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has encouraged everyone to get vaccinated to protect themselves from COVID-19 and its variants, and in November, authorized the use of the Pfizer vaccine for children 5-18 years of age. Children will be eligible to receive a vaccine, but must be accompanied by a parent to sign the waiver form onsite.
The CDC has also released information on booster shots, recommending anyone 18 or older who received the full two-dose vaccine from Pfizer or Moderna get a booster after six months. For anyone who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine (one dose) should get a booster after two months. The CDC says you can choose to get the same vaccine as your original vaccination or choose another version of the shot.
Santa Fe College strongly encourages everyone in the college community to take the steps necessary to protect themselves from COVID-19 through wearing a face mask, practicing physical distancing, frequently washing their hands and of course, getting vaccinated. Both the CDC and public health experts have advised that vaccination is the best way to protect individuals and communities.
